Project
Just as lockdown happened in early 2000 we were poised to start work on The Project to Update and Improve Sedlescombe Village Hall.
With support from the community and our regular groups we had put together a package of improvements that addressed some fundamental issues that the hall had been coping with for the last 20 years and to update the facilities to ensure that we meet the changing needs of village hall users in to the future.
With determination and hard work we secured the funding to go ahead - the majority of this, £43,133, has been through the Biffa Award scheme which included a contribution of £4313 plus a further £687 (£5000 total) from Sedlescombe Parish Council, raised from an increase on the precept for 2020/2021.
The balance of funding has come from our own reserves, Sedlescombe Screen and the ongoing generosity of groups and individuals in Sedlescombe of more than £6500.
Many thanks to you all.
As far as possible we engaged locally based companies to undertake the work.
With appropriate measures in place the first contractor, MC Glass, arrived on Wednesday, 3rd June to replace the fire exit doors in the main hall - bringing more natural light into the hall whilst ensuring that the draughts that blow in throughout the winter are no more.
Two extending lifts arrived (eventually) to enable safe high access to the next contractors.
Stage Services came in to lower the lighting bar, reposition the side lighting bars and bring the installation up to current safety regulations.
Colston Ltd were in for a week to install the new suspended ceiling, insulation, LED lighting and ventilation.
Fusion4 who maintain our fire alarm system have extended the system with sensor warning points in the new ceiling.
On Monday 15th June 2020 we welcomed Sedlescombe Pre-School Playgroup back for two days a week.
Over the following two weeks we had the acoustic panels replaced, increased and upgraded.
The installation of electric blinds at the high windows of the Main Hall means that none of us have to get a crick in the neck and need to use that knack of mastering Venetian blinds 7 meters above us ever again!
Decoration of the main hall was completed in August 2020
In October 2020 half term the floor in the Main Hall was resurfaced, sealed and the court-lines repainted.
