Sedlescombe Village Hall - 2021 - Upwards and Onwards
Dear Sedlescombe Folk, we hope that you are all keeping well and are looking to a better 2021.
Sedlescombe Village Hall stands at the heart of the community and has weathered all that a tiny virus has managed to throw at it.
During the last year the village hall has been updated and improved and policies put in place to ensure that all members of our community are considered in how we run the hall and specifically how the hall can be used in a Covid-safe way by all those who at any time are and were permitted to use the hall over the last year.
At present we are still open to host Sedlescombe Pre-School Playgroup and in the lead up to Christmas 2020 we were also the venue for the local GP surgeries to hold their Flu vaccination programme. Through out the year we have continued to support our local groups, clubs, societies and individuals in whatever way we can and they in turn have supported us by restarting whenever they could and by donation to help keep us running and ready for your return.
A special thank you to the Sedlescombe Mask Makers for their generous donations.
During the summer our then Chairman, Mark Fisher and fellow trustee, Isabel Fisher (who had been on the committee and held the posts of Treasurer and Secretary, twice, over the last 12 years) moved away from the village, and although they have continued to help manage the hall and run Sedlescombe Screen, as we approach our AGM we need a few more Sedlescombe-ites to join the team.
Managing the hall is a smooth operation and you would be joining a team with many years of experience but who welcome innovation and enthusiasm.
How much time does it take up?
Sedlescombe Village Hall is a charity with trustees made up of the management committee and regular user groups. The whole committee of trustees meet 4 times a year in mid March, June, September and December for reports from the officers and to ratify any decisions that require attention, for example, new hire rates. Meetings are expected to take an hour maximum.
The AGM is held immediately after the March Quarterly meeting and usually takes about 30 mins.
In addition management meetings are held as required and unless there is something that requires extra attention, like the recent project to Update and Improve the hall, most matters can be dealt with by email communication and up to 4 short meetings a year, in between the Quarterly Meetings.
For the last 8 years we have also organised work-party days 3-4 times a year which, as a practical group, has given us the opportunity to do a bit of extra grounds maintenance or freshen up some paintwork, over and above the general maintenance done by the Hall Manager and other contractors.
In November 2018 we started Sedlescombe Screen, the community cinema, as an ongoing fundraiser and additional activity for the local community. It has been a great success and we have managed to show 5 films this year despite the pandemic.
Sedlescombe Village Hall is an efficiently run charity that is proud to serve our community.
Join the team and carry on the good work - we are looking for up to 3 people to join the management team and particularly an experienced Treasurer to take us forward to post-Covid times.
For more information please contact Dave Brabants who has been the Hall Manager for the last 10 years and will stand as Chairman at the AGM in March.
